The Rockland Thoracic Noninvasive Vascular Laboratory provides access to the most sophisticated noninvasive cerebrovascular, peripheral and abdominal vascular procedures available today. Our goal is to assist physicians in making a timely clinical diagnosis regarding venous or arterial circulatory conditions, while helping them determine the need for more invasive procedures.
After your doctor’s examination, testing in the RTVA vascular laboratory is often the first step in diagnosing vascular disease. Specific tests are ordered according to your symptoms and suspected vascular problems. Diagnosing vascular disease begins by taking a careful medical history, including risk factors and a physical exam.
From this information, your vascular doctor will decide if further testing is needed. Testing is performed by a registered vascular technologist (an R.V.T.). Non-invasive testing utilizes various types of technology to evaluate blood flow within the vessels at rest and with exercise. These procedures are generally painless and can help to determine if blood vessel disease is present, the location, and severity
Once a test is completed, the images are sent to a physician for review and interpretation. From the results of these tests, your physician will determine the need for more non-invasive testing or procedures to treat vascular disease.
The RTVA Vascular Laboratory was the first of it’s kind in the region. It is highly respected and recognized as the place where the most accurate ultrasound and vascular testing can be found.

- Exercise and treadmill testing of both upper and lower extremities
- Venous ultrasound of both the upper and lower extremities

- Upper and lower extremity graft surveillance
- Venous plethysmography
- Dialysis access ultrasound
Accreditation
The Rockland Thoracic Vascular Laboratory is accredited by the ICAVL, Inter-societal Commission for Accreditation of Vascular Laboratories; an organization committed to the on-site evaluation and certification of vascular testing facilities. This accreditation assures both the patient and the referring physician that the physicians, technologists and equipment in the lab meet high standards of practice.
We are proud to be the only vascular lab in both Rockland and Orange Counties to have ICAVL accreditation in all of the following: • Extra-cranial Cerebrovascular Testing • Peripheral Arterial Testing • Peripheral Venous Testing

The Rockland Thoracic Vascular Laboratory is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The lab is open in both Rockland and Orange County locations. We make every effort to accommodate the out-of-town patient and the patient needing urgent study on a same-day basis.
